After years of being absent in the most surprising turn of events, Odysseus, the true king of Ithaca, has returned home at last! He was much assumed to be dead, but in a surprising turn of events has sailed home. Reunited with his wife Penelope and son Telemachus, Odysseus and his travels have come to a much-awaited end.
According to the servants and maids that saw the couple embrace after years apart, the scene was so moving it brought them to tears. Penelope was slighty suspicious at first a source tells us.
"I remained wary, even after the suitors were slain, afraid that a god was playing a trick on me," Penelope said.
She ordered Eurycleia, her maid, to move their bridal bed, and Odysseus suddenly flared up at her that their bed is immovable, explaining how it is built from the trunk of an olive tree around which the house had been constructed.
Hearing him recount these details, Penelope knew that this man must be her husband. They were reacquainted and, afterward, Odysseus gave his wife a brief account of his wanderings.
Now the suitors are slain and their families are still upset, but Odysseus tells the Colloquium Crier that he believes Athena will help him restore order and peace once more.
It is a marvel that this hero has finally returned from his epic voyage, and we can only praytell what his journey must have consisted of and how he survived. Ithaca's king has been rightfully restored, and it is a wonderful celebration for all of Ithaca.
